Olympus Malaysia has recently released the OM-D E-M1X, a camera with Micro Four Thirds System standard that is made for interchangeable lens camera to produce high-quality images made for professional photographers.
First and foremost, the OM-D E-M1X comes with a vertical grip that aims to be ergonomic for photographers so that they can actually shoot using the camera for an extensive period of time. In addition to that, the camera now comes with a Multi Selector and also a redesigned layout where the buttons are placed to be equally user-friendly for portrait and landscape shooting.

Apart from that, the OM-D and E-M1X has been tested to be durable against weather as it’s tested in-house to be splashproof, dustproof and also freezeproof up to -10°C. Olympus also made sure to upgrade the OM-D E-M1X’s Super Sonic Wave Filter so that it is 10% more resistant to dust and dirt compared to previous models, in addition to integrating the camera with an effective heat-dissipation construction for shooting under hot weather conditions.

Now, the camera comes with a 5-axis Image Stabilisation system that the company described as the world’s highest image stabilisation performance. With only its body, the camera can offer 7.0 shutter speed steps of compensation but when combined with the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4.0 IS PRO lens, it can achieve 7.5 shutter speed steps of compensation. Basically, with the new gyro sensor, photographers will be able to take shoot at lower shutter speeds while the sensor maintains the stability of the images and the recordings shot.
The OM-D E-M1X comes with a 20.4MP Micro Four Thirds sensor that is powered by the Dual TruePic VIII image processors. With two processors, not only does the camera have a higher response time, but it can also support features like HandHeld High Res Shot, Live ND and Intelligent Subject Detection AF.
Basically, HandHeld High Res Shot allow photographers to shoot up to 80MP images during RAW shooting with tripod and up to 50M images when handheld. Photographers can also opt to use this feature via a tripod, but Olympus has also made this feature available for handheld shots due to the high demand from many photographers who simply can’t use a tripod due to the shooting locations.

Live ND is another feature on the OM-D E-M1X and through the ND filter, a combination of multiple exposed images were used to create a slow shutter effect which is also adjustable in five levels. On the other hand, the Intelligent Subject Detection AF is used to detect the subject in the frame and track the subject through AI algorithms so that the autofocus is more accurate and precise. It is no doubt that these features will require powerful processors such as the Double TruePic VIII Image Processors because they require the high processing speed to be able to produce instant, high-quality camera results.
Besides that, the OM-D E-M1X comes with 121-point All-cross-type On-chip Phase Detection AF sensor for a more flexible composition, and it can achieve 60fps with its high-speed sequential shooting and 18fps when it’s on the silent mode. The camera also comes with a Pro Capture Mode that supports RAW format and can shoot up to 35 frames when the shutter button is only half pressed while promising that there will be no blackouts.

Last but not least, the camera now comes with dual batteries in which both the BLH-1 lithium-ion batteries can be charged in-camera through USB-C with 100W power source. The company claims that the batteries can be fully charged in two hours, and the batteries can be conveniently removed and replaced despite being attached to a tripod or monopod.
The OM-D E-M1X is expected to arrive in late February this year with a hefty price tag of $3,000.
