NVIDIA unveils the GeForce GTX 950 GPU made for MOBA gaming

When it comes to lag free MOBA gaming and an affordable solution, NVIDIA has that solution covered with the introduction of its latest GPU, the GeForce GTX 950 GPU based on the advanced Maxwell chipset is now official, it comes with improved performance, extremely low power consumption and advanced graphical features such as NVIDIA GameWorks and DirectX 12.

On the technical side of things, the GTX 950 is based on the GM206 chip, which has a base clock frequency of 1024MHz and a boost clock of 1188MHz, it sports 768 CUDA cores with 48 texture units available for texture processing, a 128-bit memory interface with a 6.6GHz memory clock speed, outfitted with 32ROPs and 2GB of GDDR5 memory, the GPU is also made to support up to four displays at up to 5K (5120×3200) resolution and comes with HDMI 2.0 support.

MOBA Games such as DOTA 2, Heroes of the Storm and League of Legends will be able to take advantage of the GeForce GTX 950’s pipeline to reduce input latency all thanks to the GPU’s higher performance speed and pre-rendering techniques. With the help of NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience platform, gamers will no longer need to worry about in-game graphics setting as there will be a new MOBA optimisation feature to enable its ‘high FPS low latency’ feature, which is achieved by setting the maximum pre-rendered frames to 1. On a side note, the experience is best achieved with a 144Hz refresh rate monitor.

Compared to the GTX 650, the GTX 950 three times of performance improvements with an efficient 90W TDP that requires a 6-pin power input. When we asked NVIDIA on why they weren’t comparing it with the GTX 750, officials answered that the new GTX 950 isn’t targeted at GTX 750 users as the latter would not see a significant difference in performance improvements and they should be upgrading to higher performance cards such as the GTX 970 or GTX 980 to be able to see much value.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 is available immediately from major OEMs such as ASUS, Gigabyte, Palit, MSI and ZOTAC starting from a suggested retail price of $159 (RM657), which is the most affordable GeForce GTX 900 series line up at the moment. We hope to receive a unit of the GTX 950 for review soon so stay tuned.
