The Shield Tablet K1 was unveiled last year by technology corporation. It was launched as a follow up for the NVIDIA Shield Tablet, but with lesser bells and whistles. Ultimately, it still gets the job done whether or not it’s a gaming tablet or a budget tablet running the Android OS. The Shield Tablet K1 was launched back in November last year with Android Lollipop, but eventually received Marshmallow in a swift manner by the end of 2015.
Just yesterday, NVIDIA has begun rolling out a new software update for the gaming tablet, named Software Upgrade 1.2, which carries an upgrade from Android 6.0 to Android 6.0.1. As much as it sounds like a minor update, Software Upgrade 1.2 brings a load of improvements and upgrade to the Shield Tablet K1. The standard Doze feature is added for better battery optimization. In addition to that, you can now double tap the power button to launch the SHIELD camera app. Navigation buttons are repositioned in Landscape mode and also added is a set updated emojis. Another feature which is likely to apply to snoozers is “Do Not Disturb Until Next Alarm”.
On top of that, the Shield Tablet K1 now supports the new Vulkan API for high efficiency access to its graphics hardware and sees an addition of USB MIDI support for plugging in MIDI devices such as MIDI keyboards, although Android is still in the midst of solving the high latency of MIDI on Android devices. Other tweaks include adding memory compression enhancement, fixing issues when moving apps to SD Card, improved WiFi connectivity after waking the device from sleep, and many more.
