Those of you who purchase Nvidia graphics cards are probably familiar with how these card frequently come with a free game code with it. Previously, if you’re not interested in the game itself, you could always sell or give the code to someone else. Starting today, that is no longer possible as Nvidia has applied some measures to prevent this from happening.
Nvidia has just recently updated the system in which these game codes are redeemed. Instead of the pre-existing system that lets you redeem your Nvidia code from a website which can then be used on other games-centric platform such as Steam, the new system will only allow you to redeem the game through Nvidia’s ill-received GeForce Experience app. Furthermore, the app will perform a hardware check to ensure that the person redeeming the code does have a graphics card that is tied to said game code.
This new system implemented by Nvidia will most likely eliminate a large number of resold game codes, although it would not eliminate it entirely as the game codes can still be sold off to people with the appropriate graphics card in their system. Nevertheless, we don’t imagine this move to be widely popular among gamers
