Nvidia introduces DesignWorks VR SDK

A few months back, Nvidia annouced GameWorks VR, an SDK made for game developers who wish to move their games into the realm of Virtual Reality. Now, Nvidia is opening the VR gates to the designers and professionals as well, by introducing DesignWorks VR.

Tailor-made for the people working in specialized fields such as architecture, automotive design, oil and gas, aviation, and visualization companies, the DesignWorks VR SDK allows them to create, sculpt and design their latest projects, all while taking advantage of Nvidia’s currently existing rendering technology. Some of the tech that is available for use includes IRAY, Ray Tracing and Front Buffer Rendering.

Nvidia gave an example of the potential of DesignWorks VR SDK by using the field of automotive deisgn. DesignWorks VR would allow car companies like BMW or Ford to give their customers a chance to view a specific car model in VR. Customers can then change any part of that car in real time, without even needing to touch or see the car physically.

Also shown off during the conference was how the new SDK could be manipulated wirelessly through a tablet. Nvidia took the time to demo this by showing a render of a car being transmitted wirelessly to an Nvidia Shield Tablet from a nearby desktop system that runs off two Quadro M6000 workstation graphics solutions.

Professionals who are interested in DesignWorks VR can acquire it by registering here. On another note, Nvidia will be making their IRAY software avaiable via their store. The software will be available for a free 90-day trial, afterwhich it will have a fee of USD 295 per month.
