So far, two SHIELD tablets have been launched by NVIDIA, with the SHIELD Tablet K1 launched last year, stripping away a couple of accessories that came with its predecessor for a lower price tag. The original NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet was priced within the budget spectrum to begin with. Also, the SHIELD tablets are known for their close-to-stock, or pretty much a stock version of Android. Ultimately, these tablets are known for their powerful NVIDIA mobile processors, which allows users to play console game titles on the tablet itself via NVIDIA’s Game Stream.

NVIDIA looks set to refresh the gaming tablet as a SHIELD Tablet appeared on the FCC website, with a couple of minor indications of the tablet’s specs. For now, all we know about the alleged tablet is that it will support 5GHz and 2.4GHz 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth Low Energy and it will feature a micro-USB port. Major specs haven’t been leaked but we should expect a more powerful NVIDIA processor like the Tegra X1 compared to the Tegra K1 under the hood of the previous SHIELD tablets, plus a possibility of an additional GB of RAM, making it 3GB in total.

By the looks of the image, the upcoming SHIELD tablet will likely sport front facing speakers like its predecessors. Whether or not the tablet will come packed with a stylus remains to be seen. Till then, stay tuned!
