Nokia opens lawsuit against Apple over patent infringement

Apple is facing yet another patent infringement lawsuit, but this time, it isn’t from a Korean company. Instead, it is coming from Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent.

Both Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent has filed lawsuits in Germany and the United States, with both parties accusing Apple of infringing 32 patents. Nokia has since released a statement that reveals that the patents that were infringed upon include display, user interface, software, antenna, chipsets, and video coding. Nokia’s lawsuit covers a wide range of Apple products which includes every version of the iPhone, the iPad Pro, every version of the iPad Air and iPad Mini, the Apple Watch, the Apple TV and services like Find My iPhone and Find My iPad.

“Nokia has created or contributed to many of the fundamental technologies used in today’s mobile devices, including Apple products,” says Ilkka Rahnastoin, Nokia’s patent chief. “After several years of negotiations trying to reach agreement to cover Apple’s use of these patents, we are now taking action to defend our rights.”

This wouldn’t be the first time that Nokia and Apple has went to court over patent disputes of course. Both companies have fought in court back in 2009 and 200, with a settlement being awarded to Nokia.
