If you are actually bored of smartphones and feel like having a throwback on classic phones, then be ready to spend RM299 on the Nokia 8210 4G, which has officially gone on sale today in Malaysia and it sure does bring back some memories of this small phone.
Fondly known as the ‘Butterfly’ due to its D-Pad design, the Nokia 8210 4G features the very same button form though it certainly feels nicer to press than its two-decade old senior, it features a 2.8-inch QVGA display that is pretty big for a feature phone, while its 4G connectivity is enabled by a Unisoc T107 chipset, there is unfortunately no WiFi hotspot feature as it doesn’t come with WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity is available but you probably won’t be able to do Bluetooth tethering as well.
Unlike the other modern Nokia feature phones, the 8210 4G unfortunately doesn’t run KaiOS which you don’t get access to apps such as WhatsApp and Google Assistant, it runs on the simpler S30+ platform which comes with a set of Java based apps and games, which includes the classic Snake game and some others from Gameloft, there’s also an MP3 player and FM radio function if you need some form of entertainment, storage expansion is supported up to 32GB with a MicroSD card.
Fortunately, you are able to take advantage of its 4G connectivity by browsing the web with a built-in browser and it even has a shortcut to Facebook, the phone comes with a VGA rear camera which will allow you to take really basic photos, try uploading them on Facebook and I’m sure it will be really hilarious.
Even though the Nokia 8210 4G isn’t an expensive phone by all means, the fact that you could easily own an entry-level Android smartphone such as the Redmi A1 by just topping up another RM30 made it seem like an unworthy purchase, but hey, it’s a classic phone and you might turn heads by using one.
The Nokia 8210 4G can be purchased at Nokia Mobile’s official store on Lazada and Shopee.
