There will be no Snapdragon 836 by Qualcomm, as a source close to the company has claimed that it has no plans for a slightly upgraded mobile processor in 2017. This claim entirely dismisses the many rumors of the Pixel 2 before this, stating that the upcoming Google handset will be powered by a Snapdragon 836 processor.

While last year saw the Snapdragon 821 processor being underneath the hoods of late 2016 flagships like the OnePlus 3T and the Google Pixel series instead of the Snapdragon 820, Qualcomm must be confident that this year’s Snapdragon 835 chipset does not require any upgrades till the end of 2017. The latest claim dismissing the existence of a Snapdragon 836 processor also supports recent leaks suggesting that the smaller of the two Pixel handsets will indeed run on the Snapdragon 835 chip.

Either way, most of 2017’s flagships have been unveiled already. We’re talking about the ones that are powered by Qualcomm’s chipsets, which doesn’t give the company that good of a reason to produce a half step up processor solely for the Google Pixel lineup of 2017. Do you think upcoming Pixel series will go ahead with the current Snapdragon 835?
