Nissin has introduced a noice-canceling fork for slurping sounds when eating ramen

Ever wanted to slurp your ramen noodles to enhance the taste, similar to how the Japanese people eat theirs but want to avoid the slurping sound you will make? Nissin, a Japanese company known for making the instant noodles has produced a gadget called the Otohiko fork which will cancel out the slurping sound.

Genious! Except, it comes with a giant handle and a phone app that makes a louder noise than the slurping that you will be doing. The fork’s handle has microphones and a transceiver which will detect slurping sounds and send a prompt to the app which will play noise to cancel out the sound as it makes a louder sound to drown out the slurping. In the ad, they mentioned that the reason for this is that some people are put off with the sound that Japanese people make when eating the delicious noodles, allowing this device to give them a peace of mind when they are eating.

It kind of defeats the purpose, due to the fact that you will probably grab more attention rather than the opposite and slurping noodles in Japan is a very normal thing to do. So, is there an actual reason for this $130 (RM551.26) gadget?
