Nexus 9 finally joins the Nougat train

Just two days ago, we’ve gotten some good news from Google to Nexus 6 users, as the company’s latest Android version, Nougat has started rolling out to Nexus 6 devices. This might come as a surprise to fans since Google has mentioned last month that Android Nougat will be arriving to the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 “in the coming weeks”, which is a rather vague timeframe. Speaking of the Nexus 9, the two year old tablet is finally getting Nougat as well, making both the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9 two of the oldest Google devices to get their hands on the latest version of Android.

Both variants of the Nexus 9 (Wi-Fi and LTE), as expected, are receiving the rollout of Android Nougat as we speak. With build numbers of NRD91D and NRD90R respectively, users can now update their Nexus 9’s via OTA. There are also a couple of links available via the Google Developers website.

Co-designed with Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, the Nexus 9 tablet happens to be the last tablet by Google carrying the Nexus branding, before being replaced by the Pixel C last year. Google however, decided to retain the Nexus branding for their phones till last year – the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. A couple of days back, both handsets were successed by the Pixel XL and Pixel respectively, along with news that Google has officially ditched the Nexus titles and will not be manufacturing future Nexus devices.
