AMD recently introduced the Ryzen 9 3950X, one of the two new third-gen Ryzen 9 CPUs. The excitement around the processor revolves around it being the most powerful processor in AMD’s line-up while promising to stay relatively affordable ($749), or at least as cheap top-range processors can be.
It’s built on a 7nm Zen 2 architecture and boasts 16 cores, 32 threads and runs at a base frequency of 3.5Ghz, which can be boosted up to 4.7Ghz.
To put it to the test, folks have benchmarked the CPU against the Intel Core i9-9980XE which has 18 cores and costs $1,250 more than the Ryzen. According to a report by WCCF Tech, the benchmarks have shown that the Ryzen greatly outperformed its 18-core Intel counterpart.

Geekbench 4 tests showed that the Ryzen 9 3950X scored 5,868 on single-core and 61,072 on multi-core; compared to the Intel Core i9-9980XE’s 5,300 single-core; 42,000 multi-core scores.
This drives home AMD’s recent resurgence as a CPU powerhouse; but more importantly gives them the one-up over Intel in this department, which have been the case for the better part of the year; AMD does all this, while making their products more affordable than that of Intel’s.
We reckon we’re going to see more Ryzen PC builds in the near future if this continues.
