There is still some hope for the future of Android Wear. With Android Wear version 2.0 slated for a release less than a week from now on the 9th of February, New Balance has officially launched an Android Wear smartwatch, after teasing the wearable at CES 2017. As expected, the RunIQ smartwatch is targeted at fitness enthusiasts, and has a couple of features tailored for fitness activities.
The RunIQ is a circular smartwatch, sporting a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen. It probably does not have a the infamous flat tire design seen on the Moto 360 smartwatches. Powering the wearable is an Intel Atom processor, alongside 512MB of RAM, plus 4GB of onboard storage. The RunIQ is also fitted with a heart rate sensor and a GPS made for running and cycling to places.
RunIQ users can also login to their Strava account to track an analyze their runs, which can be then compared against fellow Strava users. The MyNB app also allows connection to Google Play Music for users to download playlists to be listened to on the go. With that, users can listen to their favorite tunes when they’re out for a run without their smartphone with them. Another key feature is that the RunIQ is water resistant up to 5ATM.
The RunIQ carries a price tag of $299.99 (RM1,328.06) on Amazon in the US but the wearable is labeled as out of stock. The RunIQ should be able to run Android Wear 2.0 but we aren’t entirely sure just yet. What do you think?
