The smartphone announcement train continues on as Sony has just announced a new flagship smartphone at MWC today: the Xperia XZ Premium.
There are two main draws when it comes to the Xperia XZ Premium: the display and the camera. We begin with the display as the Xperia XZ Premium comes with a 5.5″ 4K HDR display, which is a first for any smartphone in the market. To make use of that gorgeous screen, Sony has decided to partner up with Amazon that will provide the phone with 4K HDR content.
As for the camera, Sony is opting to go with something called Motion Eye. This technology involves Sony embedding fast memory right into the phone’s camera stack. This technology gives the Xperia XZ Premium the ability to shoot slow motion videos at 960 frames per second at 720p resolution, which is another first for the smartphone. Slow motion aside, the rear camera of the Xperia XZ Premium uses a 19MP IMX300 sensor and comes with the triple-sensor system that can be found on the Xperia XZ smartphone.
Specifications-wise, the Xperia XZ Premium is equipped with the Snapdragon 835 processor, which is surprising because this particular processor was rumoured to be Samsung-only until the Galaxy S8 launches. Other than the, the Xperia XZ Premium is powered by 4GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, and a 3,230mAh battery. On top of that, the smartphone has an IP68 rating and will run on Android Nougat.
Unfortunately, no price tag nor release date was given just yet.
