It’s probably safe to say that LG’s gamble with a modular phone did not pay off as well as the company expected. With the launch of the G6 at MWC 2017, LG is aiming to drop the modular gimmick for something that’s a bit more traditional.
With the LG G6, LG has stuffed the phone with a 5.7″ QHD screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio into a 5.2″ sized phone. For specifications, the G6 comes with a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32GB of UFS 2.0 storage and a 3,300mAh battery. For the camera, LG is opting for a dual-camera setup on for the rear of the phone. This setup will utilise a 13MP wide angle lens, as well as a standard 13MP camera with OIS 2.0 technology. The phone will run on Android Nougat with LG’s own “UX 6.0” skin on it. Additionally, the phone will get Google Assistant as well.
Features is where things get a little more complicated when it comes to the LG G6. If the report by Engadget is to be believed, it appears that the G6 will come with features that can only be found on models made for specific markets around the world. For example, only the U.S. models of the G6 will come with wireless charging capabilities. Meanwhile, Asian models of the G6 will get the Quad DAC that was first found on the V20, as well as a dual-SIM 64GB variant of the phone. If you’re the kind of person who likes uniformity when it comes to smartphone features, LG’s approach to the G6 would be something you’re not a fan of.
The LG G6 will come in Ice Platinum, Astral White, and Mystic Black colours. No release date or pricing has been given just yet, but seeing as this LG, we can’t help but be pessimistic about the chances of the G6 being made available locally.
