Multiple tech companies may be interested in buying Twitter

Twitter hasn’t exactly had the best of times as the company continues to struggle with flat growth and falling profits. However, all this may be changing as news sources are reporting that multiple tech companies are looking to acquire the social media company.

According to CNBC, it appears that Google and Salesforce.com are currently “engaged in conversations” with Twitter over a possible sale. While Google’s interest in Twitter is understandable, Salesforce.com taking an interest in the social media company is slightly more curious, as the company offers cloud-based enterprise services, which isn’t exactly Twitter’s forte.

These two companies aren’t the only ones interested as TechCrunch has also reported that both Microsoft and Verizon are looking at acquiring Twitter as well. Verizon is known to have been interested in Twitter for a while now, while Microsoft’s interest in Twitter appears to be one that is tied to Salesforce’s interest in Twitter. If TechCrunch is to be believed, Microsoft is looking to drive up the price of Twitter in an attempt to prevent Salesforce from acquiring it. Microsoft has yet to release a statement about their interest in Twitter at the moment, so all of this is speculation for now.

In any case, reports of multiple companies looking to acquire Twitter have been beneficial to the social media company, as its stocks have risen by 20% and is still climbing steadily.
