Microsoft’s new conference device can identify meeting members

Microsoft’s Build event is going on right now in Seattle, and one of the products that really stood out from the rest is a smart speaker which you can guess, is powered by Cortana. However, this smart speaker is like any other we have seen because this speaker can identify the people in a room.

The company wants to change the way meetings and conferences are held. In a demonstration by Raanah Amjadi, Microsoft Team Marketing Manager, they showed how easy it is to host a meeting with Cortana.

As each member of the meeting entered the room, the speaker identified each person and even greeted them, when the head of the meeting entered, the speaker greeted her and asked if she wanted to start the meeting. As the leader said yes, the speaker activated Surface Hub to began transcribing the meeting and even taking notes of key tasks. It even had the ability to connect to Skype and translate the conversation to another language.

This device/smart speaker is still in its early prototyping stage and we might not see this device in the near future, but it can not only make meeting easier, this could potentially break some barriers between businesses when it comes communication or the inability to meet face to face.
