Last November, Microsoft rolled out a feature to its Windows Insider Builds called Unified Update Platform (UUP). With this feature in place, Microsoft is now able to shrink the size of updates. Now, Microsoft has confirmed that said feature will be making its way to every other Windows 10 user soon as part of the Creators Update.
For those who are not aware of the UUP, this platform will introduce differential download packages that would lead to smaller update files. What this feature does is that the platform scans your computer to look at files already on your system. From there, the system would proceed to download only the necessary files for your machine. Once the download is complete, Windows would then rebuild the new OS version from a combination of pre-existing files and freshly downloaded files.
Assuming that everything goes according to plan, this system would mean that the Creators Update would be the last “full build” update that you’ll see from Microsoft. Those who are already a part of Windows Insider will potentially get a smaller version of the Creators Update considering the fact that Insider Builds already content some features that will be made available with the Creators Update.
