Wi-Fi Sense, a feature implemented in Windows 10 that gives the OS the ability to share password-protected Wi-Fi networks with contacts will no longer be a thing as Microsoft has removed said feature from the latest Windows 10 Insider build.
Citing “low usage and low demand”, Microsoft has stated that it will be discontinuing this feature on Windows 10 once the Anniversary Update goes live. “We have removed the Wi-Fi Sense feature that allows you to share Wi-Fi networks with your contacts and to be automatically connected to networks shared by your contacts. The cost of updating the code to keep this feature working combined with low usage and low demand made this not worth further investment,” says Microsoft’s Gabe Aul.
While Wi-Fi Sense will no longer be a thing, some parts of the feature will still be available on Windows 10. For example, Windows will still be able to automatically connect you to public hotspots based on crowdsourced data. If you’re not a part of the Windows Insider program, Wi-Fi Sense will still be available for use until Summer comes around.
