Microsoft’s next-gen console, the Xbox Series X looks set to hit the shelves as they’ve been pushing all sorts of marketing materials already, including inviting American media to try out the device.

Today, the company is building more hype by releasing details of the console’s specs – and it looks like a beast. It’s got a custom AMD CPU built on the Zen 2 architecture, plus a custom GPU that provides 12 teraflops of performance.

It’s got 16GB of GDDR6 RAM as well as 1TB of storage by way of a custom NVME SSD. There’s also an extra 1TB expansion card that is proprietary, made by Seagate. The console also supports external HDD storage expansion too.

It’s got a 4K Blue-Ray disc drive so physical copies are still very much on the cards. Microsoft says that the device aims to allow 4K gaming at 60 FPS, and possibly 120 FPS at 1440p – so perhaps this may be the first console to actually put an end to the ‘locked-30 FPS’ gaming experiences previous generation consoles are known for.

In keeping with the times, the Xbox Series X also supports DIrectX Raytracing and they were using Minecraft as a demo. It’s unsure how much performance will be taken away should RTX be turned on – but we have a feeling many early exclusives will support RTX and should run just fine.

At the end of the day, Malaysian’s aren’t suckers for Xboxs, we mostly go for the PlayStation. The good thing is, now the ball is in Sony’s park who’ll be showing off their new PlayStation 5 midnight tomorrow. Stay tuned on our website as we bring you updates on the new console war.
