Microsoft pits Edge browser against three other internet browsers in a battery test

Are you currently using Microsoft’s Edge browser? If you aren’t, Microsoft would like you to consider it as the company has released a comparison video that pits Edge against Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera in a battery test.

Tested on identical Surface Books, Microsoft streamed an identical video on the four browsers to see which laptop would last the longest. As the video shows, the Surface Book running Google Chrome did not last very long, clocking it at about 4 hours and 20 minutes. The laptop running Mozilla Firefox was the next to go, followed by the Opera machine, and finally, the Edge machine.

If videos didn’t convince you that the Edge is the more power efficient browser of the lot, Microsoft has also released some charts that shows the difference in power consumption between browsers. According to Microsoft, the data in the charts are measured from the ‘aggregated telemetry from millions of Windows 10 devices around the world.”

Mircosoft has also noted that the power consumption for the Edge browser will be improved upon when the Windows 10 Anniversary Update goes live, so we fully expect to see an updated comparison video just so Microsoft could gloat about the Edge’s performance at the expense of Google.
