Microsoft isn’t playing around when it said it wants to turn Windows into a central smart hub of sorts, and the first step that Microsoft is taking to do so? By pushing out Cortana to other IoT-ready devices.
ZDNet reported that Microsoft has announced its plans for Cortana at the recently held WinHEC conference in China recently. In its attempt to push Cortana onto other smart devices, the company has reportedly outlined its software requirements to hardware makers. “This will enable you to build devices with displays, so you can get that immersive Cortana experience. Any kind of smart device with a screen can now take advantage of Cortana,” says Carla Forester, Program Manager for Microsoft.
With that in mind, Microsoft will be implementing far-field voice communication and wake on voice with the Windows 10 Creators Update. The former will allow Cortana to work in rooms with ambient noise at a distance of up to 4 meters away, while the latter will allow users to power on devices using their voices via Cortana.
