Google ain’t the only one that has begun the transition from Flash to HTML5 as Microsoft has announced that they will be doing so with the Edge browser starting with the next Windows 10 Insider Preview Build.
In the next Insider Preview Build for Windows 10, Microsoft will be tweaking the Edge browser so that Flash would not be loaded on a website that supports HTML5, thereby improving performance, battery life and security of the computer.
As for Flash-dependant sites, Microsoft will be implementing a system that allows the user to decide whether or not they want Flash to load and run. Once a choice is made, the preference will be remembered for subsequent visits. Microsoft will be granting some popular websites who are reliant on Flash a temporary exemption to this system. That said, Microsoft has stated that it will gradually shorten the list of automatic exceptions until users are given complete control as to whether or not they want Flash to run in the first place.
If you’re not part of the Windows Insider program, this feature will be made available on the Microsoft Edge browser when the Creators Update goes live in early 2017.
