In the recent AirWorks conference, Microsoft partnered with DJI, a company known for drones manufacture to introduce Windows SDK to the public for developers to create Windows 10 applications that can control DJI drones.
The Windows 10 applications will have access to control the DJI drones, in addition to integrating hardware such as robotic components and sensors that can be controlled by users through their PCs. Windows SDK will also allow machine-learning and data-transferring capabilities, which can be used in navigation, surveillance and maintenance inspections to decrease the risk of accidents.
In addition to that, a new service called AirMap was also announced to help educate users on the local law and ensure that they comply to the laws and to better the drone technology, AirMap works with several authorities to execute an airspace management strategy for drone traffic security. Azure will be AirMap’s exclusive cloud computing partner to manage the drone traffic and developers’ apps and services, and all the data gathered through DJI drones will be able to be processed via Azure whether it is on the cloud, through devices or Windows 10 PCs.
The AI-powered drones are expected to be able to solve issues faced such as public safety, emergencies, agriculture problems and also bring improvement to business performances.
