Mi Pad 3 successor in the works

It looks like Xiaomi has finally shifted its attention to something else other than smartphones. The Chinese company has had a good year, unveiling its range of ever improving handsets with their still affordable price tags. Xiaomi has three tablets under its belt, and is currently working on another one to be launched next year.

The Mi Pad 3 was discontinued in China on the Xiaomi store, leading to much speculation that a successor is in the pipeline for a near release. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has given us some reassurance, telling us that a next generation Xiaomi tablet is actually in the works. The Mi Pad 3 was launched just six months back in April, so chances are that its successor is still early in the development stages, but we could see an earlier release next year.

Rumor has it that the Mi Pad 4 will feature a dual boot system of Android and Windows. This comes as the demand for tablets have been reduced greatly, along with impressive hybrid 2-in-1 tablets by the likes of Samsung and Microsoft. Xiaomi moved from an NVIDIA chip to a MediaTek one in the Mi Pad 3, so we can’t be certain about the Mi Pad 4’s SoC.

Who knows? The tablet market might see a change for the better in 2018. But with the rising number of huge screen bezel-less smartphones, tablets might be sidelined once again.
