While most premium flagships have began to feature wireless charging, affordable flagships are mostly sticking to aluminium builds without that feature. Apple’s iPhones have long been rumored to come with wireless charging support, and the company finally launched its first line of glass built iPhones with Qi wireless charging standard. Xiaomi too will be joining the wireless charging world, confirming that the Mi 7 will have that feature.
The announcement was made on Xiaomi’s official WeChat channel, according to the folks at GizmoChina. This makes Xiaomi one of the first, if not the first major Chinese smartphone manufacturer to have a glass built flagship smartphone, apart from the ceramic concept Mi MIX phone. This puts Xiaomi ahead of smartphone makers such as Huawei, OPPO and OnePlus.
Would this affect the affordability of the upcoming flagship smartphone by Xiaomi? Probably, but with the increase in price tags of smartphones (iPhone X & Galaxy Note 8), the price increase, if there’s any of the Mi 7 won’t be very much apparent as long as it stays being around half the price of premium flagships.
Xiaomi adopting wireless charging could also mean that companies such as Huawei, OnePlus and OPPO will follow suit too in order to keep up with the times. Do you think wireless charging is the future?
