Meizu is just one of the many Chinese manufacturers who make affordable handsets for a living, and is also known to be one of the more thriving OEM’s alongside familar names such as Xiaomi and Huawei. The company hasn’t really been making headlines in 2016, but nevertheless, Meizu has unveiled yet another value for money smartphone to consumers, named the Meizu M5.

The Meizu M5 sits somewhere between the entry level and mid range spectrum. The phone sports a 720p resolution 5.2-inch screen with 2.5D glass. Underneath the hood lies an octa core MediaTek MT6570 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. The M5 is offered in two memory configurations – 2GB RAM with 16GB of storage and 3GB with 32GB of storage. Storage is further expandable via the hybrid dual SIM and micro SD card slot.

When it comes to camera, the Meizu M5 features a 13MP PDAF rear shooter with f/2.2 aperture and a dual LED flash. On the front is a 5MP selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.0. The M5 packs a 3,070mAh battery which should definitely be sufficient given the handset’s 720p resolution display. On top of that, there is a fingerprint reader on the front which Meizu claims to unlock in only 0.2 seconds. A drawback at this point of time might be Meizu’s decision to opt for the older micro USB port instead of USB Type-C.

The Meizu M5 comes at an affordable price point of 699 CNY (RM431.44) for the 2GB RAM/16GB storage model and 899 CNY (RM554.89) for the higher end 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant. Sounds like a pretty good price to performance ratio. What do you think?
