This might explain Xiaomi’s absence at the recent MWC 2017 at Barcelona. It looks like the company has been busy gearing up for the launch of its next flagship, the Mi 6. Xiaomi launched the Mi 5 approximately a year ago, and it is due for a refresh even if you take into account the half step up Mi 5s by the Chinese manufacturer.

Between the Mi 5 and the Mi 6, Xiaomi has launched a bunch of noteworthy handsets as well, the most significant one being the concept Mi MIX phablet, featuring a near bezel-less 6.4-inch display as part of its high end spec sheet. Rumors regarding the upcoming Mi 6 so far have caused rather mixed feelings. For instance, a 5.15-inch 1080p display which will pale in comparison when you pit it up against 2017 flagships. The Plus variant of the Mi 6 is slated to have a 5.7-inch screen with the same resolution. Underneath the hood, the Mi 6 is tipped to be powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB storage variants. The Plus model will only be offered with 6GB of RAM and in 64GB or 128GB storage.

The camera department is where you’ll see a slightly more significant difference between both models. The Mi 6 is rumored to sport a 19MP camera while its larger sibling will feature a dual 12MP rear camera setup. The selfie shooter for both the Mi 6 and the Mi 6 Plus will be the same 8MP ultrapixel sensor. As for battery, rumors suggest that the Mi 6 will pack a 3,200mAh battery and the Mi 6 Plus a 4,500mAh battery.

We’re only a week away from the launch event of the Xiaomi Mi 6 to be held at Beijing. Will the Mi 6 series turn out as rumored?
