MacOS Big Sur brings huge updates and is now available to download

The latest macOS update is here; MacOS Big Sur works best with the new M1 chip that is available on the recently launched MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac mini.

Refreshed design, better controls

One of the first thing you’ll notice when your Mac is updated to Big Sur is the refreshed design that is more consistent to match those of the iPad and iPhone. In addition to that, Apple added more improved widgets and quick access to controls in its Control Center.

Faster Safari

Another huge update is to Safari, Apple’s own web browser. Safari is now faster — 1.5x faster and twice more responsive if you’re using it on the new Macs. YouTube and Netflix now supports 4K HDR, and the tabs have also been redesigned. If you hover over your tabs, Safari will finally let you preview pages.

Privacy tools

In addition to that, Safari also gets a new Privacy Report so you can detect trackers that are trying to get your data. There’s also a tool to monitor your passwords in case any of them has been hacked.

Cooler Messages

Those who uses Messages on their Mac will also get to pin conversations to the top of their list — like the iPhone that runs on iOS 14. You can also create your own Memoji on Mac, enjoy various effects that can be added to your messages and view all your group messages in a more organised way.

MacOS Big Sur compatibility

The Macs that support the latest macOS update includes the 2015 MacBook, the 2013 MacBook Air, the 2013 MacBook Pro and more.
