Upcoming Apple MacBook update will extend your battery lifespan

The upcoming macOS Catalina 10.15.5 update will reportedly come with a feature called battery health management, which will essentially help prolong the lifespan of your battery.

The feature monitors your battery health, and examines your charging patterns – taking into account heat levels, and making changes to slow down the chemical aging of your MacBook’s lithium-ion battery.

To go into a little more, if enabled, the feature doesn’t allow your battery to be fully charged in certain cases – constantly having your batteries at a full charge can put strain on the pack and degrade its lifespan. However, if you prefer to have your laptop at full charge anyways, the feature can be turned off. The caveat is that only devices with a Thunderbolt 3 connection will be able to utilize this feature – but that also means any MacBook since the 2016 MacBook Pro

We’ve seen a similar feature like this on Dell laptops as well with their Dell Power Manager, which essentially serves to prolong battery life too. So, we’re not getting too excited for Apple’s battery health management update is still going to make many MacBook owners happy.
