LokaTAG – an aftermarket built-in toll reader compatible with SmartTAG lanes and Touch n’ Go cards

You may be familiar with our local infrared toll payment system SmartTAG; and you may also know that the 3rd-gen Perodua Myvi sports a built-in SmartTAG reader, popularising the tech in the country – at least among those who care about cars.

To date, the Myvi is the only car available in the country that comes with a built-in toll reader; but now, a little aftermarket kit called LokaTAG lets you get a similar gizmo for your own car too!

The folks behind the accessory, LOKATECH Engineering Sdn Bhd, also created MaxTag, a toll reader that rely on external mounts to work – but LokaTAG can be installed under your dashboard along with an antenna without looking out of place.

Because it’s developed by a Malaysian company, LokaTAG will work with your Touch n’ Go card and is compatible at all SmartTAG lanes – so you can rest easy there. The machine draws power from your battery and sports an LED display that shows your credit balance.

LokaTAG is priced at RM499 and can be purchased at the brand’s official Shopee page here. For those residing in Klang Valley, Penang and Johor, you’re also entitled to free on-site installations while a 0% Easy Payment Plan is available on their Shopee page for an extra RM1. Visit their website here for more information about the device.

Does LokaTAG function the same as the SmartTag? Cuz I've got one for my Perodua Myvi, but I'll still buy one if it's necessary
