You’re probably sick of hearing about news on Pokémon Go by now, but if you aren’t one of those people, you may want to know that logging into Pokémon Go using your Google account may not be a good decision for now.
According to Adam Reeve, using your Google account to log into Pokémon Go would give it full access to your Google account. This means that, should they want to, both Pokémon Go and Niantic would be able to read your e-mails, send e-mails to you, access your Google Drive documents, browse through your search history, and other acts that could probably constitute as a gross violation of a user’s privacy. While this problem was first spotted on iOS, there are reports that logging into Pokémon Go on an Android phone will also give the game full access to your Google accounts.
Both Google and Niantic has since responded to this issue though and has confirmed that they would both be working to fix this issue. Niantic has stated that it would be working on a fix for the client to only request the correct permission, while Google will be working to reduce Pokémon Go’s access to the user’s account. In the meantime, you should probably manually revoke Pokémon Go’s access to your account just in case.
