Before the MacBook Pro was properly announced, one of the numerous leaks mentioned that Apple has been working with LG to create a 5K monitor to replace its discontinued Thunderbolt Display. As it appears, this display is now available, and it comes in both 5K and 4K variants.
Called the Ultrafine Display, LG’s Apple displays comes with 27″ and 24″ variants. The 27″ model will support 5K resolutions, while the 21.5″ variant will support up to 4K resolution. Both the monitors will come with a single Thunderbolt 3 port, which is meant to connect the display to the MacBook Pro itself. The monitors will also come with three USB-C ports, allowing you to charge your iPhone 7 with it. Additionally, both monitors will come with a FaceTime-ready camera and a microphone setup with built-in speakers. As the monitor uses Thunderbolt 3, you can adjust screen brightness and speaker volume directly from your MacBook Pro, presumably using the shiny new Touch Bar.
Of course, both monitors will not be coming cheap. The 27″ model will have an asking price of USD1,299.95, while the smaller 21.5″ model will go fo USD699.95. Preorders for the 21.5″ monitor is now open and the monitor will begin shipping in late November. Those who are eyeing the 27″ model will have to wait as this particular model has a release date of December.
