Even though Lenovo released their newest budget smartphone, the Z5s yesterday in China, what many are impressed by is the revelation of an upgraded version of the Z5 Pro, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT. With the launch of the Z5 Pro GT, Lenovo became one of the earliest to launch a smartphone with a Snapdragon 855 chipset.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is similar to the Z5 Pro in many ways such as the 6.39-inch FHD AMOLED display and the slider that erased the need for a notch. It also supports face unlock, has an in-display fingerprint scanner, and supports dual nano-SIM. What is different though is the design of the Z5 Pro GT that has a carbon fibre pattern under its glass back and the red accents that aligns on the frame of the phone.

Besides that, what caught everyone attention is the use of a Snapdragon 855 chipset, Qualcomm’s latest chipset that was just announced earlier of the month. Not only that, the Z5 Pro GT will be the first smartphone to come with 12GB RAM, beating the recent OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition that comes with 10GB RAM. There are of course other variants, but the 12GB RAM variant also come with 512GB storage.

The Z5 Pro GT is similar with the Z5 Pro in terms of camera. The back holds a dual rear camera setup with 16MP primary sensor and 24MP secondary sensor, whereas the front holds a 16MP sensor with a 8MP sensor for more accurate face scanning. Aside from that, the phone has a 3350mAh battery, which is bigger than the Z5s’s battery by just a margin.

The Z5 Pro GT was launched yesterday with Android 8.1 but it is expected to be shipped with Android 9 when the official sale begins on 24 January. Meanwhile, those who are excited to get their hands on the phone can also pre-order it from 15 January onwards. The cheapest variant will cost CNY2698 and the 12GB RAM with 128GB storage variant will cost CNY4398 though there is no news about its global availability yet.
