Microsoft’s next Windows 10 build (build 14965) is now available for those who are in the Windows Insider program. This build brings with it improvements to various Windows 10 features such as Sticky Notes and Windows Ink. In addition to the improvements, Microsoft will also be introducing a new feature to the operating system: a virtual trackpad.

Available for tablets that run on Windows 10, the virtual trackpad feature will allow the user to toggle the trackpad from the taskbar. Once toggled, a virtual trackpad will appear, allowing the user to control the cursor on screen like the would on a trackpad. Microsoft has also made it so that the virtual trackpad can be customizable. Trackpad settings can be changed in the “Touchpad” menu found in the “Devices” option in “Settings”, allowing the user to tweak the virtual trackpad’s settings to suit their needs.

Microsoft believes that this feature will be useful for those who utilises external monitors with their tablets. In the event that they’re left without a mouse, the virtual trackpad will allow them to control the cursor on their external monitor. Built 14965 is currently available for those who are in the fast ring of the Windows Insider program. This feature will eventually be made available to everyone in a future Windows 10 update.
