When the Galaxy S8 launched earlier this year, it turned out to be one of Samsung’s greatest phones yet. The early 2017 flagship proved worthy as it sold very well across the globe. The Infinity Display on the front is probably the best feature of the phone, but it comes with a trade off – an awkwardly positioned rear fingerprint sensor. Samsung seems to have addressed that issue for the upcoming Galaxy S9.

The Galaxy S9 is due for a launch in early 2018 and Samsung will likely go with a similar but more refined design compared to the Galaxy S8. Many users complained about the rear mounted fingerprint sensor which was placed right beside the rear camera, with the latter often mistaken as the former, being smudged as a result. A new image of the alleged Galaxy S9 back panel cutout by Techtastic shows the fingerprint sensor positioned below the camera instead, sitting at a more ideal area on the back panel.

The fingerprint sensor placed below the camera would mean that users don’t need to stretch their fingers as much as they have to with the Galaxy S8, plus eliminating the chance of mistaking the camera lens as a fingerprint sensor. The image also further confirms earlier rumors that Samsung will stick to a single rear camera for its Galaxy S series flagships. What do you think?
