Kickstarter, the world’s most popular crowdfunding platform, is about to take its first step into Asia as the company will be making their platforms open to creators in Singapore and Hong Kong.

With Kickstarter making landfall in both Singapore and Hong Kong, creators from both these countries would be able to leverage the Kickstarter website from their home country. Previously, if a creator wishes to launch a project on Kickstarter, the creator must first be legally operating in countries where Kickstarter has a presence, owns a registered bank account in said country, and is able to raise funds on a currency that is legally tradable in said country.

“There’s already a large, supportive community of Kickstarter backers in Singapore and Hong Kong – people who have been supporting the creative ideas of others for years. Now they’ll have the opportunity to become Kickstarter creators, sharing their own ideas with the world and finding the support they need to bring them to life,” says Julie Wood, Director of Global Communications for Kickstarter.
