Could it be the price or just the lack of hype? The iPhone 8 series by Apple was announced at its annual keynote a month ago, consisting of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. The handsets have gone on sale in select regions, also now available for pre-orders in Malaysian stores. A report by Reuters show the lesser demand for the iPhone 8 than the iPhone 7 had when it launched last year.

The statistics are obtained by US stores and carriers, with one of them reporting 900,000 lesser iPhone 8 units sold compared to the iPhone 7 last year. An analyst suggests that one of the reasons of the decline in demand could be due to the fact that the upgrades from the iPhone 7 to the iPhone 8 aren’t significant enough, which is true given that most of them are incremental upgrades.

The analyst also stated that the general feedback from stores indicated that customers preferred to wait for the iPhone X to either obtain it or compare it with the iPhone 8 series. The decline in iPhone 8 sales as compared with the iPhone 7 shouldn’t be surprising at all, with worldwide underwhelming store launches of the former handset, while fans look forward to the iPhone X.

What do you think? Will you be waiting for the iPhone X or are you getting the iPhone 8 instead?
