The iPhone 8 is probably the next big phone that all eyes will be on across the world when it launches later this year. Leaked renders and rumors so far have been a mess, but we do have a general idea that the iPhone 8 will feature a near bezel-less front, like how Samsung and LG implemented on the Galaxy S8 and G6 respectively. A new report states that the iPhone 8 will retain the same Lightning port like its predecessors, with faster charging.
Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis stated in a research note, claiming that the iPhone 8 will come with a Lightning to USB Type-C cable, which differs from the standard charging cable for Apple devices, iPhone 5 onward. It will also come with with a 10W charging adapter, said to integrate a USB-C Power Delivery chip. The research also predicts the chip to be the same one in the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro.
The 10W adapter doubles the power of the current iPhone adapter, which is 5W. The standard adapter for iPad’s feature 12W power for charging, but these adapters have a male USB-A from Lightning instead. It is likely that the iPhone 8 will feature some form of fast charging if Apple goes ahead with USB Type-C power.
The iPhone 8 is also rumored to be compatible with wireless charging, which means that it will feature a glass build instead of aluminium. Thoughts?
