In an effort to promote e-sports in the country, gaming league organizers Genysis Cyber E-sports (GCE), in cooperation with The GamePlan, have today launched the Intercollege Cyber Challenge (ICC) where a host of teams consisting of tertiary students battle it out for the grand prize of RM30,000.

The objective for GCE, of course, is about exposing e-sports culture to the younger generation – the ones to take over for the likes of Mushi, Ohaiyo, kaze- and more. GCE Managing Director Justin Sau says that ICC will be a platform for young e-sports athletes to sharpen their skills and provide them with the experience to compete on a global stage.

The ICC tournament partners with 8 universities including Sunway University, TAR University College, UCSI University and more to form what GCE calls the Malaysian Esports Total Alliance (M.E.T.A) – the purpose of which is to collaborate and identify talented groups to represent their college and potentially the country. Also involved are Esports Malaysia, Malaysia’s official e-sports body, as well as the Malaysian Digital Econopy Corporation.

Participants of the tournament will be duelling it out in Counter Strike: Global Offensive, in brackets, throughout the 5-month tournament period. Winners of course will walk away with the moolah, as well as knowledge on team management, tournament hosting, e-sports and athletic performance and even sponsorship requirements should they hit the big time. The ICC tournament ends this November and you can keep tabs it via streams on The GamePlan’s Facebook page.
