Intel has warned that there will be a global CPU shortage that will happen starting this September and will likely continue until 2023.

Intel’s chief financial officer George Davis attributes this to the “persistent industry-wide component and substrate shortages” and he expects this to continue for several quarters.

According to reports, Intel is focusing on producing heavy-duty processors used by data centers, mainly because that’s where the profits lie for the brand. With production costs now increasing due to the shortage of raw materials, it would make sense for intel to extract as much profit they can, and data center CPUs seem to be the way to go.

This comes at the cost of consumer-grade processors – so if you think GPU and PlayStation 5 shortages were bad enough, this development completes the unholy trifecta of bad news for gamers across the globe. Just remember to avoid scalpers, and be wait patiently for reasonably priced products.
