Those who are looking forward to Apple’s 2017 iteration of the iPhone may be in for a treat as KGI Securties analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has come up with more rumours surrounding the new iPhone.
With the new iPhone, Kuo believes that Apple is busy at work designing a new Touch ID fingerprint reader that will be used on future iPhones and iPads. Unlike the current Touch ID reader, the new version of Touch ID will be placed under the screen. Should this turn out to be true, it would mean that Touch ID would be located underneath the new iPhone’s OLED display, allowing Apple to get rid of the Home button.
Apple may also be looking at a future beyond fingerprints as well as Kuo claims that Apple is also looking into facial or iris recognition technology as part of the next iPhone’s features. While this particular feature would most likely not be implemented in the next iPhone, Kuo believes that Apple may decide to implement either facial or iris recognition technology into both its hardware and its mobile transaction authentication services.
3D Touch technology is also expected to be improved upon as Apple’s current 3D Touch tech is stated to be incompatible with the new iPhone’s curved OLED screen. Apple will be looking to solve this problem by way of switching to a “film sensor” that is said to have greater sensitivity and more pressure levels.
As always, all of the information above are rumours. Until Apple offcially announces the new iPhone sometime later this year, do take all the information above with a grain of salt.
