IFA 2017: Samsung announces Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Icon X wearables

tBack in the Galaxy Note 8 launch event, Samsung has teased that it is releasing new wearables in IFA 2017. This time, Samsung is really betting hard on fitness by introducing three new wearables, namely the Gear Sport, a fitness focused water resistant smart watch; the Gear Fit2 Pro, the successor to the previous Gear Fit; and the second generation cord free Gear IconX earbuds.

The Gear Sport looks a lot like the Gear S3, although it sports a smaller a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display with a round frame, the watch can be used for swimming with a 5 ATM water resistance rating, it also has more advanced real-time heart rate monitoring which the Gear S3 doesn’t have, it also knows the type of activity you are doing without user intervention, from the typical walk and run stuffs to dynamic activities such as basketball and dancing. Other than that, the Gear Sport have adapted certain features from the Gear S3, such as controlling Samsung IoT-enabled devices, remote controlling your PowerPoint presentation slides and Samsung Pay.

If you prefer a fitness band form factor, the Gear Fit2 Pro has all the fitness tracking features of the Gear Sport with a built-in GPS, which can be used to track activities more accurately. Like the previous Gear Fit2, the Gear Fit2 Pro has the same 1.5-inch curved Super AMOLED display, it also shares the same 5 ATM water resistance rating as the Gear Sport, making it suitable to wear it for swimming activities. The Gear Fit2 Pro will be available in colors of Black and Red.

Even though Samsung isn’t giving a new name for its new cord free earbuds, the second generation Gear IconX has been improved with better ergonomics and more lightweight than its predecessor, battery life has also been improved with up to five hours of wireless music streaming and seven hours of standalone music playback, Samsung is also integrating Bixby into the new Gear IconX as well, which can be used to control your music or your phone.

In terms of local availability, the Gear Fit2 Pro will be available in Malaysia end of September onwards, the Gear Sport and Gear IconX will however arrive at November. What do you think of Samsung’s new wearables?
