Huawei’s refreshed Nova lineup now features dual camera setups

Huawei is carrying on its dual camera glory to other non flagships with the announcement of the Huawei Nova 2 and the Nova 2 Plus. Both these handsets are now even more worthy to be part of Huawei’s show boat of dual cam devices.

When Huawei first launched the Nova series, the phones looked only mediocre at best, from looks to spec sheet. None of them stood out among Huawei’s growing line of smartphones, but that has been improved upon with the Nova 2 and the Nova 2 Plus. One key point to note is that both these phones feature pretty much the same specs throughout apart from the display size and battery capacity.

Let’s begin with the similarities. Both phones sport the mid range Snapdragon 625 processor underneath the hood with 4GB of RAM. They also feature the same dual rear camera setup of 12MP + 8MP. The selfie camera of 20 megapixels sounds nothing less than impressive on paper as well. None of the cameras are Leica branded however, but that shouldn’t be much of a deal breaker.

The Nova 2 has a 5-inch display while the Plus variant features a 5.5-incher. Both displays are in 1080p resolution. The former also packs half the storage of the latter at 64GB and 128GB respectively. Storage can be further expanded via the micro SD card slot. Last but not least, the Nova 2 Plus carries a bigger battery at 3,340mAh capacity while the smaller Nova 2 is powered by a 2,950mAh battery.

Both the Nova 2 and the Nova 2 Plus will carry price tags of 2,499 CNY (RM1,554.73) and 2,899 CNY (RM1,803.58) respectively. How’s that for excellent mid rangers with sub RM2,000 price points?
