The first proper foldable phone may be upon us as Huawei have listed the Huawei Mate X on the official global website. Reports by Gizmochina say that the phone could be available from June of this year.
Why we say the Mate X could be the first proper foldable as opposed to the already existing ZTE Axon M is because he Mate X features a single, gap-less screen which Huawei calls the Falcon Wing Design. The screen is an 8-inch OLED display that pushes a resolution of 2480 x 2200. When folded, the phone display two panels – a 6.6-inches, another 6.38-inches.

The Mate X comes with a quad-camera setup (40MP wide-angle lens + 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens + 8MP telephoto lens + ToF lens). The camera modules are setup in a vertical orientation along the right edge of the back panel, meaning selfies can only be taken with the phone folded and using the back screen.
The device will come with a Kirin 980 chipset along with Balong 5000 meaning the Mate X will be support 5G connectivity. It will also ship with 8GBs of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Powering the device is a massive 4,500mAh battery, while the phone supports 55W Huawei SuperCharge.

The Mate X ships with Android Pie 9 and Huawei’s EMUI 9.1.1. There will also be a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that doubles as the power button. The official specs page detail only one colour option for the device – Interstellar Blue. According to Gizmochina, the phone could cost around €2,299 (about RM10,614), so we don’t see this device deice becoming widely-used when it launches, but with time, foldable phones could become better and cheaper.
