Huawei’s India event saw the unveiling of another device, apart from the Honor 8 and the “made in India” Honor Holly 3. Enter the Honor 8 Smart, which might sound like a better or smarter version of the Honor 8, but in reality it is a more stripped down and lower spec-ed version of the Honor 8 itself.
For starters, the Honor 8 Smart sports the same display as the Honor 8 – a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p display. Underneath the hood is where the differences start to show. Instead of a high end Kirin 950 processor, Huawei opted for a mid range Kirin 650 SoC for the Honor 8 Smart. Onboard RAM has also been halved from 4GB to 2GB, same goes for the internal memory, down to 16GB from 32GB on the Honor 8. Thankfully, the storage is made expandable up to 128GB via microSD.
Moving on to the camera department, you’ll start to question why is the phone named the Honor 8 Smart and not the Honor 8 Lite or something along that line. Huawei ditched the dual- camera configuration for a single 13MP camera, alongside an 8MP front facing camera which is the same selfie shooter seen on the original Honor 8. The Honor 8 Smart packs the same 3,000mAh battery as well.
The price tag of the Honor 8 Smart does justify its cut in specs. The handset is priced 25% lower than the Honor 8 at 19,999 INR (RM1,255.47) and will most likely remain as an India-exclusive device unless Huawei decides to change its mind. Let us know your thoughts at the comments section below!
