A new twist develops in the thrilling saga that is the US-Huawei trade war – sorry, there’s no other way to make this sound interesting. The Trump Administration have once again decided to grant the Chinese phone makers a 90-day waiver that allows the continuation of business ties between Huawei and a select few American companies.
This is the third time Huawei has been given the license extension – according to a report by South China Morning Post, certain rural areas in the US rely on Huawei’s 3G and 4G network to stay connected to the world – the extension is aimed at allowing companies to continue providing that service to the folks living in those areas.
Despite this, the report also says that the Federal Communications Commission is looking to apply for more restrictions on Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE. Trump’s leniency on this matter as of now seems to be for the benefit of Americans – once Huawei’s offerings are no longer dependent upon, we reckon the President will officially cut ties with the Chinese giants, and any companies that are deemed a danger to national security for that matter.
For now though, we’ll wait until at least late January 2020 before something new develops in the saga.
