HTC is on a slow start coming back into the smartphone game but with the current devices that they have produced, it looks like they might start overtaking other manufacturers faster than expected. In a recent 5G event that happened in Taiwan, the company might have quietly shown off the upcoming HTC U12 which seem to be able to support 5G connectivity.
HTC did not mention if the phone is the U12 but Evan Blass has mentioned on Twitter that the phone is the HTC U12, codename HTC Imagine. It comes with an 18:9 ratio screen and based on rumours, a 4K resolution display and a facial recognition feature on its flagship phone rather than a fingerprint sensor. Even if there are no details on the phone, HTC has mentioned that it is capable of download speeds of 809.58Mbps and comes equipped with the latest Snapdragon 845 and an X20 LTE modem that supports download speeds up to 1.2Gbps.
Based on reports from Sogi, a Taiwanese publication, HTC will be launching the U12 somewhere in 2018, but no official confirmation has come from HTC.
