A report by Chinese site MyDrivers not more than two days back has stated that HTC will be selling off its smartphone business due to its financial struggles that have worsened recently. Although the Taiwanese OEM has been rumored to give up on its smartphone sector for quite some time now, it appears that the company has absolutely no plans to sell its business off.
According to the folks at TechnoBuffalo, HTC has been said to respond to their email regarding the rumors surrounding the sell-off. The manufacturer been has claimed to “strongly deny this rumor”, which tells us that HTC still has hopes for its handsets to sell well in the future. This also dismisses rumors suggesting that HTC CEO Cher Wang has allegedly agreed with the plan for the business sell off.
HTC has suffered a $63 million loss during the third quarter of 2016, but the dismissal of the rumors suggests that the company will continue striving in the market for its products, and the sale of Google’s Pixel handsets is slated to be HTC’s saving grace as it is the manufacturer responsible for making the Pixel’s. On the other hand, HTC has hinted that it will focus more on the VR business in the future to come.
