It’s been a busy month for HONOR what with the launch of their HONOR 9X Pro smartphone and the HONOR MagicBook laptop – in its native China, they also released the HONOR 30S, which is basically the lower end variant of the series.
With so many devices already under their belt for the year, HONOR doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon as they’ve also just announced the HONOR Play 4T and Play 4T Pro. The devices were launched in China – and as its name suggests, this is geared towards the gaming crowd, but it isn’t really marketed as one.

The smartphones look a lot like the HONOR 30 series what with the rectangular camera bump at the back – the front however, sports a water drop-notch instead of a punch hole cutout. The HONOR Play 4T Pro is 6.3-inch device with an AMOLED FHD+ screen, while the vanilla HONOR Play 4T coems in a smaller 6.3-inch chassis with an IPS LCD HD+ panel instead.
Under the hood, the Pro variant is equipped with a Kirin 810 chipset with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The regular Play 4T comes with a Kirin 710A chipset with 6GB RAM and the same storage capacity.

The last HONOR Play phone was, of course, the very first one; and that packed a Kirin 970 chipset – a flagship processor at the time. Since then, the Kirin 810 SoC on the Play 4T Pro is leaps and bounds better than in every aspect. Benchmarks show 38% better AnTuTu scores, a higher GPU clock frequency and much better battery life.
The Kirin 710 on the regular HONOR Play 4T, however, doesn’t hold a light to the Kirin 970 – the latter edges out the former in every department, except the Kirin 710 has a higher clocked GPU. So, if you’re going to pick either one of these phones, I’d recommend you go for the Play 4T Pro.
Imaging isn’t going to be the biggest selling point for the HONOR Play 4T series, but it still comes with a respectable set of lenses – the Pro variant has a 48MP main lens, an 8MP ultrawide unit and a 2MP depth sensor; meanwhile, the regular Play 4T ditches the 8MP ultrawide lens and retains the other two lenses.
Both smartphones come with a 4,000mAh battery, but only the Pro variant supports fast charging of up to 22.5W; the regular version only supports regular charging, which should be at 10W.
The HONOR Play 4T is priced at CNY1,199 (RM735) while the Play 4T Pro will cost CNY1,499 (RM920) for the 6GB RAM version, and CNY 1,699 (RM1,042) for the 8GB RAM option. The phones will go on sale later this month; however, there’s no word on the local pricing and availability yet, but stick around as we bring you more updates as they come.
